Face masks? Essential oils? Exfoliators? What? With the multitudes of products and brands out in the market, skin care can be quite intimidating. But, it shouldn’t be. In reality, there are only three steps you need to do to keep your skin in tiptop shape.
The first step is to wash your face with a cleanser. Depending on your skin’s needs, the kind of cleanser you should use varies. Some products have a little extra something to them. Take for example a cleanser with salicylic acid that’s meant for acne-prone skin or a hydrating cleanser that’s meant for dry skin.
The next thing to do is to tone your face to remove whatever dirt is left behind from cleansing. Use a toner that is meant for your skin type. If a regular toner is too strong for your skin and dries you out, consider using a gentle, alcohol-free toner.
Last but not the least, moisturize. It is totally untrue that those who suffer from excessive oiliness should skip this step. Keeping your skin hydrated is just as important for those with oily skin and those with dry skin. Just like the previous steps, it all really depends on finding the product that matches your skin’s needs.
These three steps are the basic steps to a complete skin care routine; anything else that comes afterwards or in between should be considered as add-ons. A lot of factors like the climate of your locality, pre-existing health conditions, and most especially, your skin type will affect what products you choose and add to your routine.
At the end of the day, your skin care routine is unique to you and it will take some patience to find the perfect products for you. Experimenting with products may be scary so if you’re hesitant to do it on your own, consult with a dermatologist and don’t be afraid to ask many questions.
